Tenants°®¶¹app™ rights due for strengthening
Fort Wayne renters have a target on their backs. Predatory slumlord investors are targeting our citizens.
Fort Wayne is heralded as a leading housing market, prized for its affordability and landlord-friendly laws. Yet, this acclaimed environment has dark undercurrents, chiefly the proliferation of predatory slumlords exploiting renters, especially in marginalized communities.
These investors, drawn by Indiana°®¶¹app™s attractive landlord perks °®¶¹app” efficient eviction processes, flexible security deposit laws, and minimal rent control °®¶¹app” buy up properties only to neglect them, endangering tenant safety and inflating rental prices. When tenants dare to complain, they face potential eviction, exacerbating strain on our legal and social service systems, and contributing to urban decay.
The impact on Fort Wayne is undeniable: inflated home values, limited chances for first-time homebuyers, and further homelessness. Moreover, the scarcity of legal representation for tenants, compounded by alleged collusion between attorneys and slumlords, leaves many without recourse.
It°®¶¹app™s high time for legislative intervention. We must strengthen tenant protections, cap security deposits and rent hikes, mandate property maintenance, improve access to legal representation for tenants and enforce transparency among landlords.
This moment calls for decisive action from Indiana°®¶¹app™s lawmakers to ensure fair play in Fort Wayne°®¶¹app™s housing market. It°®¶¹app™s not just about safeguarding tenant rights °®¶¹app” it°®¶¹app™s about preserving the integrity of our community.

Congress must reject unqualified nominees
As the story goes, the mad Roman emperor Caligula once appointed his favorite horse as a senator.
Donald Trump has decided to offend all Americans and make a public display of his ability to force our cowardly leaders in Congress to grovel before him and pretend that the horse-brained imbeciles he has selected for secretary of defense and the Department of Health and Human Services are remotely qualified to serve in these positions.
Let us all hope and pray that our leaders in Congress can summon up the backbone to exercise their duty and authority under the Constitution to decline to give their consent to these supremely unqualified candidates.

°®¶¹app˜Not a participation trophy°®¶¹app™
To all those good-hearted yet delusional folks who think Joe Biden should resign so Kamala Harris can become the first female/Black/other minority president, I would point out that the office of the president of the United States is not a participation trophy for the losing team.

°®¶¹app˜The great changes we are about to receive°®¶¹app™
Cindy Pond°®¶¹app™s letter (Nov. 14) depicts Republicans as enemies of the USA with her small-minded accusations and trivial judgment of a powerful, influential, intelligent and proactive leader. Choose your battles.
Would you rather have a weak, incognitive person who doesn°®¶¹app™t know how to even speak in public run the country? Who had his aides take over for him because he was incompetent?
I°®¶¹app™m sure you°®¶¹app™ll never find anyone involved in politics to be a pure person. If that were the case, no one would be in charge.
Quit fearing for your own future. This is not about you, it°®¶¹app™s about being an American, being proud and accepting of the great changes we are about to receive.
