A Fort Wayne man was identified today as the victim of a fatal shooting on Christmas.Ā
The Allen County coroner's office said Philip Michael Rhinehart, 39, died of a gunshot wound to the chest, and his death was ruled a homicide.
Rhinehart's death is the 41st homicide in Allen County this year.
The shooting happened just after 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Officers responded after receiving reports of shots fired near the intersection of West Fourth and Wells streets.
Officers located a man suffering from apparent gunshot wounds, a news release said. Fort Wayne firefighters and Three Rivers Ambulance Authority medics rendered aid but the man was pronounced dead.
Two men were preliminarily charged with murder Thursday, Fort Wayne police said. Chad Kinney, 46, and Shawn Williams, 47, were arrested and remain at the Allen County Jail.Ā
