A 24-year-old man was sentenced to 50 years in prison Friday °®¶¹app“ exactly one year after a fatal shooting at a southeast Fort Wayne apartment complex.

Joshua Parrish°®¶¹app™s sentence matched the punishment suggested in a plea agreement he entered last month. Allen Superior Court Judge Fran Gull accepted the agreement that dismissed a separate charge for using a firearm to commit the crime.

Parrish was charged with the Dec. 6, 2023, shooting death of Antonio Cortez Harris, 31.

Parrish°®¶¹app™s sister said they saw the defendant shoot Harris multiple times about 8:30 p.m., Detective Lucas MacDonald wrote in a probable cause affidavit.

Investigators found three shell casings at the scene.

Parrish went to his sister°®¶¹app™s home at the Villa Capri Apartments on Fox Point Trail. He asked if everything was OK, and she said everything was fine, even though she and Harris had been arguing.

Parrish asked Harris to go outside to talk. His sister told police that one of her children said Parrish was out in the commons area and wanted to see her, the affidavit said.

Harris asked the woman to tell Parrish, who was holding a gun, that everything was OK. She pleaded with Parrish to believe her that everything was fine before her brother shot Harris multiple times.

Parrish then raised the gun toward his sister, and she perceived it as a threat. He then fled, the affidavit said.

When interviewed by police, Parrish said he hadn°®¶¹app™t been to the apartment complex since October. He also told police that he couldn°®¶¹app™t remember what happened °®¶¹appœbecause his memory is bad from drinking a lot,°®¶¹app the affidavit said.

Parrish was given credit for 272 days Friday, and he was recommended for a mental health evaluation at the Indiana Department of Correction, according to online court records. He has been at the Allen County Jail since Dec. 11, 2023.
